Here are just a few clients we have had the pleasure to work with.
Claire telephoned us after having just bought her brand new house. The builders had left her garden in a mess - full of bricks, sand and builders rubble. Claire is a busy professional having just moved up to the Norwich office from her native London. Her promotion meant that she would have to entertain potential clients and colleagues more often and hoped that maybe dinner parties at home would be the answer. However, the garden left her in a bit of a dilemma. We designed a cool contemporary space for Claire that she uses as an extension to her dinning room that opens out into the garden. The planting was soft and mainly green and low maintenance. Claire was thrilled with the final result and finds that her garden is easy to look after as well as impressing her dinner guests!
Mark and Linda had lived in their house since both their children had been born over 7 years ago. They had spent a lot of money on projects within the house and now their attention had turned to the garden. The family didn’t really use the garden much and the outdated layout meant Mark spent most of his free time keeping the grass and weeds down to a reasonable level. A family garden was designed to make best use of the space including a separate area for the children. The family now spend all of their time in the garden during the warm summer days and Mark has found he now spends all his time at the front of the BBQ rather than behind a lawnmower!
Peter and Maureen are enjoying their first full year of retirement following Peter’s sudden change of health. A small heart attack had given Peter the push he needed to take early retirement and an easier life. However, the garden was a problem for Peter as it was hard work to look after and Maureen couldn’t do it all herself. Their garden was radically redesigned and the maintenance was cut down by over 80%. Peter and Maureen had always wanted to travel during his retirement and now they can knowing that when they return from their trips abroad their garden wouldn’t be overgrown and unsightly.
Michael and Patricia both have a full life with work commitments and family demands. They were finding their large garden a real struggle. Although mainly lawn, they found that to keep the garden looking good they had to spend hours tidying it. In addition Michael’s job was taking him away from home more and more, and so Patricia was left with lots more to do. They had employed a gardener twice a week, whose main job was to keep the grass at a reasonable level.
But, they realised their garden was an asset which they ought to exploit more. We designed their garden, providing them with a pond, a large seating area and an elegant pergola with some trellis work that disguised some outbuildings, which rather dominated the garden. The new garden had a more natural feel to it and the planting reflected this fact. At the outer edges we planted wild flower meadows, whereas nearer the house, the garden was more formal.
We completed the new garden in just over six weeks and Michael and Patricia were thrilled at the result. They found their new garden easy to maintain and now spend less time doing so - so much so that they don’t need their gardener as often. They also enjoyed the increase in wildlife the garden brought about and eagerly told me of the late evening they spent watching a barn owl hovering over the wild flower meadow looking for his tea!
They now spend much more time in the garden and in particular entertaining their family and friends with BBQs and summer parties. Patricia even held a party on November 5th in the garden to celebrate fireworks night. A friend of theirs, who is a local estate agent, has suggested to them that the new garden has increased their property value by about 10% - which was less than they spent on the project.
However, best of all is that Michael and Patricia have discovered how wonderful having a designed new garden is and Michael has even taken up an evening class to study horticulture. We provided him with a new hobby that he loves. Patricia is amazed by his enthusiasm, particularly when Michael suggested selling his golf clubs, as they were now redundant and cluttering up the garage!
